Operation
NOTE
The motor switches off automatically as soon as the blender attachment is
removed from the motor unit . In such cases it may be easy to forget that the
machine is still switched on. The motor will then start unexpectedly as soon as
the blender attachment is fitted.
Therefore:
1) Do not plug in the appliance until the blender attachment is filled,
closed and fitted on the appliance.
2) Before fitting, always ensure that the appliance is switched off or the plug
has been removed.
3) Switch off first, pull the plug out and wait until the motor has come to a
standstill before removing the blender attachment .
Fitting and filling the blender attachment
1) Remove the blender attachment from the motor unit and remove the lid .
2) Fill the blender attachment and then press down the lid firmly onto the
blender attachment . Ensure that the pouring spout of the blender attach-
ment is also closed.
3) Place the measuring cap in the opening in the lid and close it by turning it
clockwise.
4) Place the filled and closed blender attachment on the motor unit . Turn
the blender attachment slightly until you can press it down. The motor
cannot start until the blender attachment is fitted flush.
Selecting the speed setting
Once the blender attachment is filled and sitting completely closed on the
motor unit , you can switch on the appliance:
Set the switch to...
Level 1–3: liquid or semi-liquid foods, for mixing, pureeing and stirring.
Level 3–5: for more solid foods or for chopping.
Level Ice Crush/Clean: for short, powerful pulse operation, e.g. for
crushing ice cubes or cleaning. To prevent overloading the motor, the
switch will not click into place in this setting. Therefore, hold the
speed switch in this position only for short periods.
SSM 550 D1
GB
 9
NOTE
Do not fill the blender attachment with more than 180 g of ice cubes.
Otherwise, the appliance will not crush the ice cubes optimally.
Filling during operation
WARNING – RISK OF INJURY!
Never insert cutlery items or mixing tools into the blender attachment
when the appliance is in use. There is a considerable risk of injury if these
come into contact with the swiftly rotating cutting blades !
Do not open the lid . Food could fly out at high speed!
NOTE
If you want to add a little extra while the appliance is running, use only the
measuring cap provided for this purpose.
To add food while the appliance is running...
1) Turn the measuring cap anticlockwise and remove it.
2) Add the ingredients.
3) Then replace the measuring cap in the opening in the lid and close it by
turning it clockwise.
Removing the blender attachment
Once you have finished processing the food in the attachment:
Always start by placing the switch into the “OFF” position and pulling out
the mains plug.
Wait until the motor has come to a complete standstill before lifting the blender
attachment directly upwards. You do not need to turn the blender attach-
ment while doing this.
To achieve the best results when pureeing solid ingredients, add only small
portions to the blender attachment instead of a large amount at once.
If you are working with solid foods, cut them into small pieces (2–3 cm).
When mixing liquid ingredients, start by adding small quantities of liquid.
Add further liquid as required through the opening in the lid.
SSM 550 D1
10
GB

closed lid.

Crush/Clean to prevent the cutting blades from blocking.

sugar or white sugar. For instance, to make icing sugar.
