operating instructions in a safe place for future reference. If you sell the device or pass it on, always
include these operating instructions. They are an integral part of the device.
WARNING! This symbol indicates important information for safe operation of
the contact grill and the safety of the user.
DANGER! This symbol warns about injuries or burns associated with hot
surfaces of the contact grill.
This symbol indicates other important information on the topic.
The contact grill is not intended to be operated with an external time switch or a separate
remote control system. Never leave the contact grill unattended when it is switched on. It poses
a fire hazard!
This device can be used by children aged 8 and older and by persons with reduced physical,
sensory or mental abilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they are supervised or have
been instructed on the safe use of the device and understand the resulting risks. Children must
not play with the device. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children

without supervision. Always keep plastic packaging away from children. It poses a suffocation
risk.
Children who are younger than 8 years of age must be kept away from the device and its
mains cable.
If smoke is produced, or there are any unusual sounds or smells, switch off the contact grill
immediately and remove the mains plug from the mains socket. In such cases, the contact grill
should not be used until it has been inspected by authorised service personnel. Never inhale
smoke from a potential device fire. If you have inhaled smoke, however, consult a doctor. The
inhalation of smoke can be harmful.
Never touch the mains cable and the contact grill with wet hands because there is a risk of an
electric shock!
Do not use the contact grill with charcoal or other fuels. It poses a fire hazard!
Always place the contact grill on a flat, heat-resistant surface and not in the vicinity of heat
sources and flammable materials, liquids or gases. Leave at least 30cm clearance from walls
because there is a risk of fire otherwise!
The contact grill must not become damaged in order to prevent hazards.
Ensure that no fire sources (e.g. burning candles) are placed on or near the contact grill. It
poses a fire hazard!
Do not leave the contact grill unattended when it is operating. Always switch off the contact
grill when it is not in use and remove the mains plug from the socket. Put away the contact grill
only when it has completely cooled down. It poses a fire hazard!
Warning: Fire hazard! Never use the contact grill in the vicinity of flammable materials such as
curtains, drapes, etc.
The contact grill must never be exposed to any direct heat sources (for example, heaters) or
direct sunlight or bright artificial light. Also avoid contact with dripping water and splashes
and corrosive liquids. Do not use the contact grill near water. In particular, the contact grill
should never be submerged in liquid (do not place any items filled with liquid, e.g. vases or
drinks, on the contact grill). Also ensure that the contact grill is never subjected to excessive
shocks and vibrations. Furthermore, no foreign objects may penetrate the device. Otherwise,
the contact grill could be damaged.

Mains cable
Always handle the mains cable by the mains plug and do not pull on the cable itself.
Do not place the contact grill, furniture or other heavy objects on the mains cable and ensure
that it is not kinked.
Never tie a knot in the mains cable and do not tie cables together. Ensure that the mains cable
is placed so that no one can trip over it and it does not cause an obstruction.
Make sure that the mains cable does not touch any hot surfaces of the contact grill.
Do not use adapter plugs or extension cables that do not comply with applicable safety
standards, and do not make any alterations to the mains cable! If the mains cable is

written consent of the author. This also includes commercial use of the content and data. The text
and illustrations are based on the state of the art at the time of printing. Subject to change.
Prior to use
Remove the contact grill from the packaging and remove the packaging material completely. Check
the contact grill for signs of damage. If damaged, the contact grill must not be used.
Place the contact grill on a flat, heat-resistant surface. If the surface is sensitive, place a heat-
resistant board under the contact grill.
There is a risk of burns! The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be very high when the
device is operating.
Clean the contact grill as described in the section "Cleaning". Remove the cleaning scraper from the
grease tray (10). Turn the thermostat (9) to "●". Open the cover and lightly grease the grill plates
(3 and 6) with suitable grease, margarine or oil. This enables production-related residue on the grill
plates (3 and 6) to be removed more easily. Then insert the mains plug into a mains socket that is
always easily accessible. Turn the thermostat (9) to "MAX" and preheat the contact grill once with
the cover open until the READY LED (8) lights up to indicate that the temperature has been reached.
When using the device for the first time, production-related residue may give rise to a slight odour
and minor smoke emission is also possible. This is normal and will fade after a short time. Please
ensure that there is sufficient ventilation. Open a window if necessary. After approximately 15
SilverCrest EDS SKGE 2000 A1

minutes, turn the thermostat (9) to "●" in order to switch off the contact grill. Now disconnect the
mains plug from the socket and let the contact grill cool down. Then clean the contact grill again as
described in the section "Cleaning".
First use
Place the contact grill on a flat, heat-resistant surface. If the surface is sensitive, place a heat-
resistant board under the contact grill.
There is a risk of burns! The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be very high when the
device is operating. Only touch the handle (1) or the thermostat (9) of the contact grill.
The accessible surfaces of the contact grill can become very hot. Use pot holders or oven
gloves to prevent burns. There is a risk of injury.
Never use metallic objects to remove or turn food that you are grilling as they can damage the
coating of the grill plates (3 and 6). Use a heat-resistant plastic or wooden spatula instead.
Place the food to be grilled directly on the grill plates (3 and 6). Never use tin foil, a plate or
similar as a base.
Before using the contact grill for the first time, make sure that the grease tray (10) is correctly
inserted. The grease tray (10) must be emptied in time to prevent it from overflowing.
Optimising outward flow of grease
There are 2 fold-out feet (see arrows in the
adjoining figure) at the rear of the bottom
grill plate (6). Fold them out when you are
preparing food with a high fat content. This
raises the front of the unit slightly and
allows the resulting grease to flow more
easily into the grease tray (10).
In "single-sided grilling" mode, you can
place the the top grill plate (3) slightly at an
angle with light pressure (see arrow) to
ensure the grease flows easily.

This mode (Figure A) is suitable for searing both sides of the food without having to turn it. Proceed
as follows:
Turn the thermostat (9) to "●".
Set the slider (4) to " " in order to release the cover.

Grease the grill plates (3 and 6) if necessary with suitable grease, margarine or oil and close

Turn the thermostat (9) to the desired setting.
Setting I = Defrost
Setting II = Heat up
Setting III = Medium level of grill
Setting MAX = Maximum level of grill

the contact grill starts to heat up. When the set temperature is reached, the READY LED (8) also
lights up.
Now open the cover and place the food to be grilled directly on the bottom grill plate (6). Then
close the cover again. The contact grill heats up again once the temperature drops below the
set level. This is indicated by the READY LED (8) going out at this time.
Switch off the contact grill after use by turning the thermostat (9) to "●" and remove the mains
plug from the socket.
Clean the contact grill as described in the section "Cleaning".
Single-sided grilling

shock!
Wait until the contact grill has cooled down completely. Otherwise, there is a risk of burns!
The contact grill must not be immersed in water as there is a risk of an electric shock!
Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the outer surfaces and never use any solvent or cleaner that
would corrode the plastic materials.
